Savage Jazz Dance Company's 20th Anniversary!
Savage Jazz Dance Company celebrates 20 years of dancing excellence in their 2012 Spring Season! Reflecting the dynamic vision and artistry of Reginald Ray-Savage, “Dances for Oakland” featured three exciting World Premieres, along with new works and repertory classics featuring music by Philip Glass, Charles Mingus, Max Roach, and more. In addition to the fiercely physical dance for which the company is known, this extraordinary occasion featured guest performances from Menlowe Ballet, led by Artistic Director, Oakland Ballet icon, Michael Lowe. Matt Small Trio at the de Young Museum, 2012!
Long time Bay Area collaborators Matt Small and Steve Adams, were joined by New York based Grammy Award winning world percussionist, Shane Shanahan, for a special concert, Friday, May 4 in Wilsey Court at the de Young Museum . This eclectic trio performed a blend of jazz and original music infused with a wide variety of styles from across the globe.
